Question of Medium?

I've  been pondering the question of mixed media.... I like to refer to my 'artwork' as mixed media.... I even googled the definition which states.... artwork made using two or more types of media. Then I pondered some more.....  is  what I make better described as multi layered?

This was my entry for last week's Orange theme on SPA.... which I didn't get around to blogging in time, even though I had made it in advance...

and so to break the postcard down... the base card is white that I added some some rubons to and then some acrylic paint . Then I used some mica sprays on top to add some shimmer. Collage images and stamping and some water soluble pastels. Lastly, I added some flower soft (i've never used this but found it in some of my mums craft things)
Therefore.... is this mixed media or multi layered?

Here is my postcard for  Anne's theme of ADD A CHARM

Thanks for visiting my blog

  2. Acckk! These are both such fun! Mama Gardner bird is as colorful and delightful as her garden. And those two little girls are sweet as can be having a little tea party in mama bird's garden. The little bee charm is perfect.

  4. Both pieces are lovely, Mandy! And I think the answer to your question is your piece is both mixed media and multi layered. Nice use of the mica spray. You're the second person I've seen who has used mica/shimmer in her artwork. I think it looks great.

  5. I have always thought of your work as mixed media, Mandy, and your "orange" postcard is a perfect example!! Both are great postcards with lots of color and interest. One could even say about the second, it is charming! ;-) Glad to see you back at the helm!
